Remixes, Re-Edits and Re-Touches

26 Jan

Essentially one and the same. These are some rather fine examples. The other day, I looked at my iTunes album and found that 10GB out of 46GB are remixes. Not quite sure what to make about this.. I’m sure certain psychologists would have me know it reflects a great deal about my personality, maybe a perfectionist streak? Here are good one’s anyway…

DJ Mehdi – Signatune (Kaytradamus Remix)

When Thomas Bangalter, one half of Daft Punk has remixed a song, it’s something of a risk to take a go at remixing it, especially if you’ve heard what he’s done with it – it’s pretty fantastic. So relatively unknown Canadian Kaytradamus certainly has balls. However, he’s pulled this one off really nicely, an interesting and different take on the remix to kill all remixes!

J Dilla – Stop! (Kaytradamus Remix)

J Dilla is, sadly, an artist I know very little about. So I’m not in the greatest position to judge this remix from Kaytradamus really. To me though, it sounds pretty damned good! I know enough, however, to feel honoured to be posting this track of his.

Two Door Cinema Club – What You Know (Kaytradamus Remix)

Man, quite a bit of Montreal’s Kaytradamus today! Still this one leads nicely into the next one and it’s a good track in it’s own right anyway. When TDCC released the stems for this one a few months back, it’s led to innumerable remixes. I think this one and the one below are two of the better one’s.

Two Door Cinema Club – What You Know (Dresscode Remix)

I really like what they’ve done with the guitars here – the new house-style pianos transform the song from an indie ditty into a beast fit for dancefloors where skinny jeans aren’t obligatory – although dancefloors where skinny jeans are obligatory tend to be the best!

Rui Da Silva – Touch Me (Jamie xx Remix)

A new Jamie xx remix always brightens up the day, as is the case here with his take on Rui Da Silva’s early 00’s house smash. Truth be told, I can’t really remember the original, but knowing his old work, one can rest assured that this is almost definitely an improvement!
